Announcements:
Literacy night is this week!  Please make sure you have it on your calendars and are able to bring your family to the school that night to participate in lots of literacy activities.

Please note I've added a bunch of websites on the right side of the page.  One of those is called Tumble Books, it is through the Salt Lake County Library.  They have about 45 books in French.  Most of the books show the text and reads the story to you.  There are quizzes and games the students can play after reading the books.  I think it is a neat resource please check it out!

English:

Our question of the week is, "How can we be responsible community members?" We will be reading, Carl the Complainer. It is realistic nonfiction that tells a story about a boy that find many things in his community to complain about.  We'll learn how he solves his problems.
Comprehension skill: We are talking about Cause and Effect.  This is a tough one for kids to figure out sometimes.  A cause is why something happens.  An effect is what happens or is made to happen.  An example we give is a boy runs over a nail and gets a flat tire on his bike.  The cause was the nail, the effect is the flat tire.  Give your students some examples and have them figure out the cause and effect in what they are reading.
Our phonics /spelling pattern: prefixes: un-, re-, pre-, dis-
Vocabulary skill:We will be looking in the dictionary and reviewing dictionary skills.
Conventions: We are learning about pronouns specifically singular and plural pronouns.
Writing skill: We are learning how to write a realistic fiction story.
Fluency skill:accuracy and appropriate rate

Math:

We will be starting to learn about weight, and measuring with pounds and kilograms.  We will also be taking the CFA a test reviewing coins, problem solving, geometry, fractions, and length.
