Weekly News

Important Dates:
Jan 30 CBM testing (Reading Testing)
Feb 3-6 Red Ribbon Week
Feb 7 No School (Teacher work day)
Feb 12 First Bobcat Award Cutoff
Feb 14 Valentines Day

Announcements:
The first cutoff for the Bobcat Award is fast approaching.  There are many students who are very close and just need to complete their personal goals.  You can either email me and let me know what goals they have completed and I can sign them off on my copy, or you can return the Bobcat Award paper with the completed goals marked off.  Don't stress too much, they can still receive their award later in the year if they aren't close.
We will have a Valentine's party in each of the classes.  Students can make a box or bag to hold their valentines at home and bring them to school on the 14th.  I will send home a class list for students who would like to get Valentines for their classmates to pass out.  But the green class has 28 students, and the blue class has 26, so you can plan accordingly.

English:
This week is Unit 4 Week 2.  Our question of the week is "How do plants change over time?"  We are reading a nonfiction story about the life cycle of a pumpkin.  We get to talk about lots of different life cycles of animals and incorporate some science into our reading this week.
Our spelling pattern is with /u/ and /oo/
We are talking about sequencing as our comprehension skill it makes a lot of sense this week, it's hard to get a pumpkin without starting out as a seed. :)
We are continuing to learn about adjectives, focusing on adjectives that describe number, size and shape.  Today we even learned that "the" can be an adjective!

Math:
We are working on subtracting two digit numbers with regrouping.

French:
This week are learning the /in/ /ain/ and /ein/ sounds.

Science:
We will be learning about physical changes.
