12/22- 1/2 Winter Break

Announcements:
This week has totally gotten away from me.  Sorry this post is so late, but better late than never hopefully.
The students have been working towards earning a pajama party for bringing in box tops.  As of today the green class has earned their pajama party on the 17th of December.  I haven't checked on the blue class yet, but we will be sure to let the students know.  Please just make sure that students wear modest pajamas.  School dress code still applies.  Also if students choose to wear slippers make sure to send them with shoes to change into for recess.

English:
We are on unit 3 week 2 our question of the week is "In what creative ways do we communicate?" We are reading a story this week called "Dear Juno."  It's about a boy that writes letters to his grandma that lives in Korea and even though he doesn't speak Korean he can still find ways to communicate with her.  This week we are also learning how to write letters and we will be writing letters to different people.
Phonics skill: We are working on long o sounds spelled o, oa or ow.
Comprehension Strategy: We are working on drawing conclusions.  We practice using our own background knowledge plus also looking at pictures and other information of the story to learn more about the characters and what happens in the story.
Conventions: We are using verbs with singular and plural nouns.

French: We will read text 42  and work on the sound [oi].
Song "vive le vent" and chorus of "une fleur m'a dit"

Math: We are finishing topic 6 and will be taking the topic 6 test.  We will begin topic 7 which teaches mental subtraction strategies.
