Announcements:

Thank you for coming to parent teacher conferences.  It was great to be able to meet with each of you and discuss the great things that your student is doing. 

English: 

Our question of the week this week is, "Why is it a good idea to work together?" We will be reading a story, The Bremen Town Musicians.  Four animals find that they are no longer needed for the work they once did.  We learn about how the animals work together to solve their problems. 
Our phonics /spelling pattern: plurals (adding -s, -es, or -ies to a word)
Comprehension skill: we will be discussing cause and effect as well as story structure.  As your child is reading at home ask them questions like, "what happened first, then what happened next" etc.
Vocabulary skill: homophones- words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings. 
Fluency skill: Expression- as your child is reading out loud, have them practice putting expression in their voice as they read.  Make sure they are not reading monotone.  To practice reading with expression they can read the same page 3-4 times so they are not struggling with reading the words but can focus on expression. 

Math:

We are still working on money.  Your student should be completing Topic 5 online.  You can also have them practice counting coins, and finding more than one way to make a certain amount.  (example, finding 2-3 ways to make 32 cents.)  Vocabulary words that we will work on are: penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half-dollar, dollar. 

French:

We are learning the /an/ /anne/ /am/ /amme/ sounds this week.

 Social Studies:

We will be talking about plant adaptations, and specifically focusing on how desert plants make adaptations.
