Weekly News

Important Dates:
Sept 1- No School
Sept 16- CBM (reading) testing
Sept 25- Picture Day

Announcements:
We are off to a great start this year.  We have been talking about and reviewing the rules and learning the routines in both classes.  We know it's hard to get back into the routine of sitting in the classroom so long, please try to encourage students to use the restroom during recess and lunch to minimize the amount of time they are away from class.  Of course we will let them use the restroom if they need to, we just hope to eliminate extra trips. ;)  Also students are welcome to bring a water bottle to school with them and keep at their desk.
The red homework folders should be in next week, thanks for being patient with those.  In the next few weeks we will start getting our volunteers scheduled to come help in the classroom.  We look forward to getting to know each of you and your children better as this year progresses.  As always feel free to contact us with anything!

English:
We have started Reading Street, we are on Unit 1 Week 1.  This first unit focuses on exploration as the theme.  Our question of the week this week is "What can we learn by exploring different communities?"  We have been learning words like urban, suburban, and rural and learning the differences in those communities.
Phonics skill: We are reviewing short vowel sounds. (Don't forget the spelling list can be found on the right hand side of the blog.)
Comprehension Strategy: We are identifying the characters and settings in stories.
Conventions: We are focusing on sentences, understanding that they are a group of words that tell a complete idea.  They need a capital letter and punctuation at the end.

French: We are reviewing sounds.  Last week we were reviewing /o/ and /e/ sounds.  This week we are working on /ou/ sounds.  We are also talking about things we like to do.

Math: We are reviewing addition.
