Weekly News

Important Dates:
3/19 Parents and Pastries
3/23-3/27 Math-a-Thon Week
3/27 Early out day

Announcements:
We took the unit 4 test last week.  Most of the students did very well, I am proud of them.  Please take a few minutes to log into Pearson this week to check what skills they have not yet mastered.  I don't require Pearson homework but strongly encourage you to take a few minutes to review those skills and help fill in some of those holes and provide extra support at home.
We have the math-a-thon coming up in 3 weeks.  We are doing it a little differently this year, we are spreading it out over the whole week so the kids don't get quite so overwhelmed doing 100 questions all at once.  That being said we are looking for volunteers to come help do corrections for us from about 9:45-10:15ish on those days.  Some will be helping in the French classroom reading the math questions to students (since Madame Gautier can't speak English to the students). Other parents will be in the hallway correcting papers for the students.  The PTA put together a sign up genius for the volunteers, if you are interested in helping out please sign up!

This week we are on Unit 5 Week 1.
Our theme for Unit 5 is Responsibility so we will be talking a lot about what it means to be responsible.  (Maybe that means being responsible to make sure our library books are in our backpack or turning in our homework, and not trying to blame mom or dad for forgetting.)
Our question of the week is "Why should we be responsible for doing a good job?"
Spelling:We are focusing on suffixes -ly, -ful, -er, and -or.  We are also learning about how when you add a suffix to the end of a word it changes the meaning of a word, and by knowing the meaning of the suffix it helps us decode the meaning of unknown words.  For example the suffix -ly means in a ___ way so sloppily means in a sloppy way.
Comprehension: We will be identifying facts and opinions in literary nonfiction.
Conventions: We are identifying and using pronouns in sentences.

Math: We are on topic 11 which is three digit addition and subtraction.  It's pretty simple if students understand regrouping.  If they are still struggling with regrouping your student might need additional support at home.

French :Be sure to check Madame Gautier's weebly.
