Weekly News

Important Dates:
September 19- Fundraiser ends
September 25- Parent DLI meeting

Announcements:
Don't forget that Monday is our library day, we had many students remember to bring their library books back, but there are still quite a few who forgot.
Also another reminder we have asked that there are no birthday treats brought in this year (this includes non-food items as well).  We appreciate you being respectful of this rule we have made for our classrooms.

English:
We are on Unit 1 Week 5.  Our question of the week is, "How does exploration help us find answers?"  We will be reading, The Strongest One. It is a drama that tells the story of an ant who sets out to find who is the strongest.
Comprehension skill: We are talking about facts and details.  This is also a comprehension skill that is difficult for students to be able to pick up an identify.  I teach them that a fact can be proven true, and details help us to be able to picture it in our minds or understand something better.
Our phonics /spelling pattern: ch, sh, wh, th
Conventions: We are talking about imperative sentences (commands) and exclamatory sentences (showing emotion).
You should have seen a computer print out of your students reading test we took on Friday.  The reading tests will be taken on the computer for the rest of the year.  If you look at the print out, it will list areas that your student needs to keep working on.  These are area's that have NOT been mastered.  The computer will automatically generate assignments that your student can complete to practice those skills they have not yet mastered.  I would recommend taking a look at those.  It is not required that your child completes those assignments but I would HIGHLY recommend that they do so.  The assignments do not need to be turned in to me, just work on them at home.  If you want to see what the questions were on the test that your student missed you can access it by clicking on "To Do" under the Reading Street tab.  Then at the top you will see a button labeled "done" if you click on that you will get access to the test that we took.  If that didn't make sense or you still have questions just let me know and I'd be happy to walk you through it.

Math:
We are continuing to teach addition and subtraction strategies.  We are working on strategies when adding three numbers, how to problem solve, and working with ten frames.

French:
This week will are learning the  /ette/ /erre/ /elle/ /esse/ sounds.

Social Studies:
We are talking about our community and the similarities and differences of members of our community.  We are also going to be talking a little about immigration to the United States.
