English:
We have started a new unit.  The big question for unit 2 is "How can we work together?" all our stories will focus on people working together, it is definitely a skill that we will be working on in class as well.
This week we are on Unit 2 Week 1.  Our question of the week is, "How can we help each other in dangerous situations?"  We will be reading, Tara and Tiree, Fearless Friends. It is a narrative nonfiction text that tells the story of two dogs that help rescue their owner from a dangerous situation.
Comprehension skill: We are talking about cause and effect.  This is another one of those skills that are pretty tricky for students to comprehend.  When reading ask your child some cause and effect questions to help them build up this comprehension skill.
Our phonics /spelling pattern: r-controlled vowels: ar, or, ore, oar
Conventions: We are talking about nouns.
We took our unit test last week, don't forget that you can log on to www.pearsonsuccessnet.com to find additional worksheets and videos to help your student master those skills they are still struggling with.  It's not required but I HIGHLY recommend it.

Math:
We are now working on Topic 4.  It has been assigned on person.  We are working on modeling tens and ones, and using models to compare numbers.  We are also going to be using symbols like greater than, less than, and equal to compare numbers.  We are also working on reading and writing numbers.

French:
This week will are learning the  /cr/ /dr/ /vr/ sounds.

Social Studies:
We are talking about our community and the similarities and differences of members of our community.  We are also going to be talking a little about immigration to the United States.
