Weekly News

Important Dates:

9/25 Fundraiser ends
9/28 Minimax book orders due
10/8 No School (teacher work day)

Announcements:

  • Minimax book orders are due on Friday! Please send them in if you are interested in ordering them this year!
  • Please see my earlier post about needing parent helper to come on Wednesday to help with our project we are working on.  The more help we have, the faster it goes, and it's a lot more fun!

 English:

The homework this week from me is the book report copied on yellow paper.  As you can see it is very simple and easy.  I don't want the book report to be something that the parents spend 3 hours working on.  It should be the student working on it with a little parent help.  They will come home the last week of each month.

This week our question of the week is: What can we learn by exploring the desert?  We are reading a nonfiction story, A Walk in the Desert. We will read about some of the plants and animals that live in the desert.  Our phonics skill we are working on is with inflected endings (example: adding -ed, -ing to a word).  We are learning the difference between declarative and interrogative sentences.  We are also reviewing Main Idea and details.  For writing this week we will be working on an informational paragraph.

Math:

In math we are continuing to learn addition and subtraction strategies.  Topics 2-3 should be assigned online.  I've heard of a few problems with students who completed the quiz and did all the problems correctly but it said they only got 4 out of 5 problems right.  Just have your student complete the quiz and we will take it from there.

French:

We are working on the /et/ sound.

Science:

We are continuing to learn about animals.  We are learning the characteristics of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, birds and fish.
