Announcements:
We had so much fun last week when the Living Planet Aquarium sent their rainforest van to teach us about some of the animals of the rainforest.  Hopefully you already heard all about this great experience and some of the animals we got to see and touch.
Friday is early out day so teachers can be in meetings the rest of the day.  Don't forget that students get out at 1:05 instead of the old schedule at 1:15.
I see a lot of progress being made with Reflex Math, please make sure they are getting on at least 3 times a week.  It is better for them to have a short review more frequently than being on the computer for a long time once a week.
Parent Teacher conferences are coming fast.  Just so you are aware, you students will NOT be coming to this conference.  We want to be able to have an opportunity for the French teachers to speak to you and there will not be the "show and tell" at this conference.

English:
We are on Unit 1 Week 5.  Our question of the week is "How can exploration help us find answers?"  The genre of our story is a drama, so it is written like a play.  We will be reading "The strongest one" it is about an ant who sets out an an adventure trying to find an answer to his question.
Phonics skill: We are working on consonant digraphs which is when two or more letters blend together to make one sound.  We are working with the /ch/ /wh/ /sh/ and /tch/ sounds.
Comprehension Strategy: We are working on identifying Fact and Details.  We explain that facts are information that can be proven true.  Details are small pieces of information that help us picture what we read and better understand it.
We still struggled a little on Main Idea and Details last week, keep asking questions about main idea as your student reads at home.
Conventions: We are identifying declarative and interrogative sentences.  Declarative sentences are statements that end with a period.  Interrogative sentences are questions that end with a question mark.

French: We are working on words from the Gafi lesson and answering questions about the story and about the  è ê sounds.  Students that finish early are helping us make a picture dictionary with French words.

Songs : We are learning a new song this week.  Ask your students to sing one of the songs they have already learned to you.

PE: We are continuing to teach French games, this week the students will learn "la riviere aux crocodiles."

Math: We are continuing with topic 2 which teaches addition strategies.  You can work with your students to make sure they know their doubles facts.  We noticed that some students made a lot of mistakes just adding 0, 1 or 2.  Make sure they slow down and look at the problems carefully.  Also make sure that your students are still getting on Reflex Math to practice their math facts.
